Name: | valeria richards |

Birthdate: | Feb 9 |
Location: | United States |
Name: Valeria Evelyn Richards / Marvel Girl
Age: Feb 9th, 1990
Height: 5’7
Weight: 147lbs
Eyes: Hazel
Hair: Blonde
Relatives: Reed Richards (father, currently MIA and presumed dead), Susan Richards-Storm (mother, currently MIA and presumed dead), Franklin Richards (brother), Remi de Namor (half brother, AU variety), Ben J. Grimm (Adopted father/Godfather), Alicia Grimm (Adopted mother), Jacob Grimm, Ryan Grimm (adopted siblings), Jonathan Storm (Uncle), Lyja Storm (Aunt), Mary Storm (Cousin)
Base of Operations: Brookview JN, (former) Xavier's Mansion, Westchester NY, Lower Eastside (Yancy Street), New York City; Baxter Building, Four Freedoms Plaza.
Team: New Mutants
Skills: Valeria has inherited the Richard's family stroke of genius, with an intellect that exceeds her father's pre-powered intelligence. She's adaptable in mechanics, engineering, physics, robotics, and computers though she readily admits she lacks the experiences of her father and other geniuses such as Dr. R. Bruce Banner, Dr. Henry Pym, Henry McCoy, Anthony Stark, and Dr. Victor von Doom. She used to dismiss magic (despite her short stint as a familiar) but once you're kissed by a Phooka, you become a believer.
She has been trained by Xavier's self defense classes and by Ben Grimm to fight, though she much prefers using her powers and keeping out of the fray. Most of her ability of how use her powers were taught to her by mother Susan Storm before Sue disappeared.
Valeria currently speaks, writes, and reads in seven foreign languages, Arabic, Spanish, Chinese (Cantonese dialect), Hebrew, Russian, and Hindi. While she can read and write all languages fluently, she is only speaks fluently in Arabic, Hindi and Spanish. Speakers of the Cantonese dialect tease her about her pronunciations, and she doesn’t use Hebrew and Spanish as often as she should.
Valeria has a photographic memory, though she cannot instantly recall all her memories. With a bit of effort (usually less than that), she can recall memories. Most often times she uses this ability to speed read through non-fiction. While not quite a skill, Valeria's thought process is impossible for any human telepath to keep track of and she often gives telepaths headaches when they attempt to read her thoughts.
Powers: Valeria uses an unknown ambient energy to create force fields and energy based forces. She is able to adapt these force fields much like her mother to bend all wavelengths of light around her body without causing any visible distortion; she also directs enough undistorted light to her eyes to maintain sight while invisible. Valeria can mentally project this energy around other people or objects, rendering them invisible. Valeria, unlike Susan, cannot render other objects made invisible by other means or normally invisible energy. However, Valeria can shield a subject's bioelectric aura, kinetic energy, heat energy, mass shadow, smell, and psionic energy with her force fields. In return, Valeria's force fields protect against all forms of energy (this includes magic and psionic) and solid objects of great mass and momentum.
Valeria can also shape her force fields into invisible 'constructs' into various shapes. By generating additional force behind her constructs, she can turn them into offensive weapons, ranging from massive invisible battering rams to small projectiles such as spears and darts. Valeria can make constructs at a sub atomic level (presuming her mother could have done so well, though the concept of subatomic was never well defined with Susan) to as large as 50 feet in diameter. She can also use her force fields to mimic telekinesis. In theory, all of this can be improved over time. Valeria has a current theory that she might be manipulating dark energy rather than cosmic energy and currently is the only person in the world that can sneak up on her omnipath brother, Franklin Richards.
Weaknesses: Valeria is not at the level of her mother when it comes to durability and fineness, though it stands to reason this is due to inexperience. Valeria has on occasion in recent months to jump over her projected levels at times of crisis. This usually leaves Valeria with a terrible headache, fainting and/or symptoms of a hemorrhage affecting the brainstem. Upon her first reaction to such and inspection by Dr. McCoy, it was concluded that her brain did not receive damage. Yet it's been stressed to Valeria to train her powers at a slow and steady pace for fear of her actually having a massive stroke with over strain.
Valeria's powers are affected by her concentration. Her level of focus depends on how much she's protecting herself from. For example, she can easily block three or four things (light, smell, CO2, pisonic energy) while multi tasking. However, with more protections and more complex the force shield needs to be, the more focus she needs on keeping the shields up. Psychological strength also plays a factor as well. Unlike Susan, Valeria needs to focus on what energy, chemical, or variable she needs to protect herself from. If her shields are set up for psionic energy, but not radioactive energy, Valeria or the subject she's protecting will be affected by the radiation. One of the few things that can get past Valeria's shields are lights and shadows unless if she's invisible.
Valeria has a harder time with larger constructs than she does with smaller constructs. Though she is able to make more complicated shapes in relatively small forms, she has a harder time making such refined shapes at larger sizes. Valeria also has a terrible problem of using her shields around others, reflective of her ability to handle 'solid' constructs more easily than 'hollow' constructs. She currently also has trouble keeping the shields tightly around more than one object and having tight shields around other subjects. She often forgets her shields can prevent others from walking when they're surrounded, though this problem does not occur when she's shielding just herself. Currently, she can handle up to four separate shields of various sizes and depth.
While Valeria has an excellent long-term memory (she has vivid memories from eight months and continuous vivid memories at 14 months) and near photographic memory, these memories often get jumbled, confused, or take longer than a few moments to recall. Her short-term memory can be terrible and sometimes is too self focused and lost in her ideas that she appears to be forgetful of others. While some might consider it strength, Valeria has a tendency to bury away unpleasant memories and feelings. This is perhaps based the two years after her parent's disappearance where she couldn't cope with the loss of her family. She can recall these terrible memories too vividly. While she doesn't mention it much, Valeria still sees a therapist about these problems. Very few people are aware of these weekly sessions but Ben and Alicia Grimm and Lucas Eisenhardt.
To top this off, Valeria is the classical introvert. She's often focused on her projects, studies, and her flights of fancy to interact with her peers. While this has very much improved since the loss of her parents, few people are aware of Valeria's emotional depth. While she is sweet and warm nature, she's painfully shy and can appear to be aloof. She often isn't sure what to say in casual settings and truly can't make small talk very well.
Strength level: Valeria possesses the normal strength of a normal human woman her age, height, and build who engages in moderate regular exercise. Her shields can currently press roughly 80 tons though class 100 strength wouldn't be an impossible endeavor.
History: Besides just calling for the world's experts with radiation, in this reality Reed Richards was wise enough to call a Gy/Ob. Between the Gy/Ob the timely intervention of Doctor Doom, Susan Richards safely gave birth to her youngest and only daughter, Valeria Richards. Doctor von Doom named the child though neither parent realized Doom had only done this to make the child his familiar.
Valeria spent the first year and 2 months in her life in relative peace. It wasn't long after her Christening when Valeria began to process vivid memories. However, these early memories would be painful. Her family had been kidnapped by Von Doom and she was used as his familiar. While her family was rescued by the timely intervention of her father and Dr. Strange, Valeria's first vivid memory she can recall is being held by Doctor Doom during his psychotic breakdown and dependence on magic in his attempts to best Reed Richard during this time.
Other issues came up as Valeria grew older, and her parents confirmed their daughters budding genius and developed it and enriched it. Between her mother's appreciation for the fine arts such as theater and English, and her father's love for science, Valeria had a more rounded education that her father. She didn’t just enjoy science and mathematics, but art and literature as well. Her parents hoped for a Renaissance 'child'.
Both her and Franklin were introduced early to the world of Super Heroics, mostly through sneaking into their Uncle Ben's poker parties. Many famous faces were the normal to the young girl and her brother. Frightening faces such as Annihilatus and Galactus were common cautions and Valeria couldn't help but develop an early awe of Galatcus. She would have play dates with the Inhuman's royal children where she would be friend Luna Maximoff and Ahura and Stheno Boltagon.
Her parents were not surprised to find that Valeria was a mutant, though Reed was surprised to find it happened so soon and to find that Valeria had developed an advanced version of her mother's powers. Her parents planned on having her go to one of the finest private schools for high school and train her at home, since the only person on Earth who could help Valeria master her powers was her mother.
When Valeria was 12, her world fell apart.
During a battle with Doom, her parents became lost in the circuits of time and different realities. Stunned by what he had done, Doom had left the battle to leave Ben Grimm (who was now able to shift from stone to human, permanently) and Johnny Storm to figure out what he had done. Ben was the one who broke the news to the children. What already a painful event with the loss of her parents became agonizing when Franklin locked himself away.
Valeria would spend the next two years in a state of emotional shock and exhaustion. Her work fell by the way side and Ben enrolled her in Xavier's in an effort to help develop her powers where her mother left off. Between Dr. Xavier and Dr. Samson, Valeria managed to overcome her break down and continue school as normal at the age of 14.
Upon her recovery and continuation of stable support Valeria made the leaps and bounds in school. She graduated from Xavier's with enough college credits under her belt to earn her Bachelor's in computer science and physics at Princeton University.
During her superheroic career, she was an asset in the the Doppleganger crisis and the Fey attack at Xavier's School. Valeria was also present in helping against Apocalypse and saved the AI of technology and fought a Hawaiian Godzilla. Recently, Valeria's fallen into a depression and rut of sorts, dropping from the MIT program for her Masters. She's not yet dealt with the return of her parents and feels alienated from most people due to her negtive reactions of her parents return.
Personality: Valeria is very sweet and civil towards people, if inherently very shy. She’s rather comfortable about her shyness and plods happily ahead to her own beat. Her aloof nature gives her the impression of being arrogant though this is not the case. She’s warm with family and friends and is quite kind to strangers. Though Valeria doesn’t quite connect emotionally at times, and often misses or skips a beat with the world around her. While dependable, reliable, and quick thinking in a crisis, Valeria prefers to blend into the background. She is deadly with her abilities and her cool logical thinking while in battle can be a complete asset.
Valeria Richards/Marvel Girl is a character adopted from Marvel Comics. Sarah Clark belongs to herself. This is a roleplay journal.
